When Casino Arizona at Salt River opened in 1998, it established a new standard for Native American gaming in the Phoenix-Scottsdale area. In 2011, Casino Arizona chose FFKR Architects, the interior designers of the original casino, to establish a new and refreshed image for the casino. The scope of work included updating the design and finishes in three casino floors, creating new and exciting environments for several existing restaurants, updating the showroom into an entertainment lounge/club, and expanding the facility to include a new restaurant.
As one of two gaming properties owned and operated by the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, the redesign of the original hard-shelled casino is focused on responding to the clientele that frequent Salt River. Material selections emphasize light and bright spaces with color used as accent. Rather than using an overt theme, FFKR worked with the Tribal Interior Design Committee to choose designs that reference historical culture and art; natural colors and textures of the desert; and thoughtful use of tribal images, icons, and art.
