FFKR was hired to design a replacement school for the now 100-year-old Olympus Junior High School. The schematic design was carried out with input from a steering committee comprised of teachers, school district employees, administrators, parents, students, and City of Holladay representatives. From the outset, the committee stipulated that the existing school was to remain in session and undisturbed during construction of the new school. That requirement, combined with the size constraints of the site, posed an interesting challenge. As a result, the building was oriented along the west edge of the property to avoid the existing school and maintain a view of the green space. Additionally, the site placement affords most classrooms an eastern view across the playing fields toward the Wasatch Mountains.
