Our team conducted a comprehensive feasibility study of the Alturas International Academy Charter School’s new space, the historic O.E. Bell building —a former junior high school in Idaho Falls. Built in 1930 and originally renovated into offices in 1998, our focus was on revitalizing the space to meet the academy’s needs. The evaluation of the building’s structure, ADA compliance, building codes, and utilities found original concrete auditorium seating in abandoned rooms, outdated electrical and HVAC systems, and a lack of ADA accessibility in most areas. Through extensive research and cost budgeting with the client, the design team completed the renovations, transforming the building into a modern educational facility, upgrading restrooms, restoring the former gymnasium, installing new LED lighting, and replacing windows to enhance functionality and energy efficiency.
